The Super Eagles have safely arrived in Uyo after their flight from Angola made an emergency return due to a cracked windscreen.

The Super Eagles have safely arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following a mid-air scare that forced their chartered aircraft to make an emergency return to Luanda, Angola, on Saturday.

The Nigerian team, returning from Polokwane, South Africa, was en route to Uyo when the pilot detected a cracked windscreen shortly after takeoff from Luanda, where the aircraft had stopped to refuel.

According to reports, the pilot maintained calm and professionalism, safely guiding the aircraft back to Luanda Airport. All passengers and crew were confirmed safe, with no injuries reported.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said contingency arrangements were immediately made, as another aircraft was dispatched from Lagos to complete the team’s journey to Nigeria. The Super Eagles eventually landed at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, at about 8:05 a.m. on Sunday.

The incident caused a delay in the team’s return ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic. The fixture, scheduled for later this week, is seen as pivotal to Nigeria’s qualification chances.

With their safe arrival now confirmed, attention turns back to football as the Super Eagles resume final preparations for the must-win encounter.
