Troost-Ekong and Akor Adams scored as the Super Eagles defeated Lesotho 2-1 to boost their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes.

Nigeria moved a step closer to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Lesotho on Friday.

Captain William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 55th minute after a Lesotho handball. Akor Adams added a second in the 80th minute before Kalake pulled one back three minutes later, setting up a tense finish.

Despite the win, Nigeria remain behind Group C leaders Benin Republic, who also secured victory in their match. The Super Eagles sit on 14 points, three behind Benin’s 17, with one game left to play.

To qualify automatically, Nigeria must beat Benin in the final round and hope their rivals drop points. Goal difference could also prove decisive if teams finish level.

Lesotho’s defeat effectively ends their qualification hopes, leaving them stranded on nine points from five matches.
