Ajibade confirmed that none of the promised rewards have been delivered.
Captain of the Super Falcons, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that the team has yet to receive the $100,000 reward promised by President Bola Tinubu’s administration after winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Atletico Madrid forward said other commitments made by the government were also yet to be fulfilled. “We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid,” she said.
Tinubu had hosted the team to a presidential banquet after their record-extending 10th WAFCON title win, announcing $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for technical crew members, national honours, and three-bedroom flats in Abuja.
During the reception, the President lauded the team’s “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage,” describing their victory as a historic milestone for Nigerian sports.
