Moises Caicedo says he’s happy for Florian Wirtz as the German star closes in on a British transfer record move to Liverpool.
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has responded to reports that Florian Wirtz is set to surpass his British transfer fee record. Liverpool have reportedly agreed to pay Bayer Leverkusen up to $158 million (£116 million) for Wirtz, eclipsing Caicedo’s £115 million move to Chelsea in 2023.
“I didn’t know Liverpool was going to pay that,” Caicedo said while on Club World Cup duty with Chelsea. “It’s good… he’s a great player. I think everybody watching [can see] how he plays. So I’m happy to hear he’s [coming] to the Premier League.”
The Ecuadorian midfielder praised Wirtz’s talent and expressed no concern about losing the record fee tag. Wirtz is expected to complete a medical this week.
