“At first, we thought they came to buy shawarma, but then, they suddenly pulled out guns and shot him multiple times at close range.”
Panic gripped the Ebutte-Ipakodo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, after suspected cultists shot and killed a popular shawarma vendor, Benjamin, also known as Benji.
Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday while Benjamin was attending to customers at his roadside stall, Chibest Shawarma.
A resident, Samson, told PUNCH Metro, “At first, we thought they came to buy shawarma, but then, they suddenly pulled out guns and shot him multiple times at close range.”
Another source said Benjamin was left in a pool of blood and could not get immediate medical help due to panic in the area. He was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
Residents described the deceased as friendly and hardworking.
As of press time, police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin had not responded to inquiries.
This killing comes weeks after a 16-year-old boy was hit by a stray bullet during a suspected cult clash in Ebute Metta, Lagos.
