Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari says Nigeria spends $10bn yearly on food imports and calls for increased financing to boost exports and achieve food sovereignty.
The fund aims to cut post-harvest losses by buying produce directly from farmers, improving storage and logistics, and ensuring steady supply to the Lagos market.
In an internal circular dated June 11 and seen by TheCable, Adedayo Modupe, the ministry’s director of human resource management, said the spiritual exercise is intended to seek God’s guidance for Nigeria’s food security efforts.
This trend has been observed in previous years. In both 2023 and 2024, the agriculture ministry’s capital budget included line items for tailoring workshops, grinding machine distribution and laptop donations, all filed under agricultural development.
