Elder statesman Tanko Yakasai says President Bola Tinubu currently has the best chances of winning the 2027 election, citing his nationwide backing and weak opposition.

Elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has said that, as it stands, nobody has a better chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, Yakasai noted that he is unaware of any northern consensus behind a candidate, saying, “What is tagged the Arewa Consultative Forum or Northern Elders Forum’s position is mere individual opinions.”
“In Nigeria today, Bola Tinubu is the president… Who else has what it takes to move into the contest with the kind of stamina and strength to be more successful comparatively with Tinubu?” he asked.
He added that internal crises within major opposition parties have further strengthened Tinubu’s chances.
Yakasai advised politicians to prioritise national interest over ethnicity and personal ambition.
Approaching 100 years old, the elder statesman attributed his longevity to divine favour and genetics, saying, “My children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are more than 80 and still expanding. I give glory to God for these.”
