CNN anchor Jake Tapper revealed new claims from his forthcoming book alleging that President Joe Biden’s staff shielded him during key moments of his presidency due to concerns about his mental acuity.
Tapper reported that Biden held only one cabinet meeting in 2024, and interviews with secretaries described a “deliberate strategy” to limit access. One secretary described the period as “The Weird Period,” saying the president was increasingly isolated.
“In some meetings, Biden would mumble incoherently,” Tapper said, citing multiple aides and cabinet members. “He seemed disoriented and out of it,” another source stated, although they denied he had dementia.
Staff reportedly worked to keep Biden happy and avoided giving him bad news. “The staff did him wrong,” one secretary said.
In response, a Biden spokesperson stated, “We continue to await anything that shows Biden was unable to do his job. The evidence points to the opposite. He was a very effective president.”
