A Texas teacher apologized after allegedly feeding a sick kitten to a classroom snake, sparking outrage from parents, students, and PETA.
A Texas high school science teacher has apologized after complaints that she fed a live kitten to a classroom snake, prompting condemnation from the animal rights group PETA.
According to parents, the teacher in Alvord, about an hour north of Fort Worth, brought in four sick kittens born by her cat and fed one of them to the snake. A student reportedly took the remaining three kittens home, where they later died.
The incident sparked outrage after the teacher allegedly told a student, “You can’t save them all,” and admitted she also fed kittens to snakes at her home. PETA Vice President Rachelle Owen said: “Anyone who would demonstrate such cruel and disturbing behavior shouldn’t be around children or animals.”
Alvord Superintendent Randy Brown confirmed the teacher fed one “ailing” kitten to a snake but said it was done outside students’ presence. The teacher has since apologized and removed all snakes from her classroom. Authorities investigated but filed no charges.
