The boy sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

A tragic incident in Iyamu village, Edo State, has led to the death of 14-year-old Okonkwo Obinna Emmanuel during a ritual intended to test the power of a so-called “bulletproof” charm.

On April 2, 2025, a self-proclaimed native doctor, Amechi Edozunor, and his associate, Kelvin Ugru, allegedly smashed a bottle on Emmanuel’s head as part of the ritual demonstration. The act was meant to prove the charm’s effectiveness, but it resulted in severe head injuries to the boy.

Despite efforts to save him, Emmanuel died in the hospital three days later, on April 5.

The Edo State Police Command has since arrested both Edozunor and Ugru. According to law enforcement officials, the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

Community leaders and police have condemned the act, urging families and young people to avoid dangerous traditional practices.
