President Bola Tinubu has brokered a peace deal between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

President Bola Tinubu has brokered a peace deal between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, resolving a protracted political crisis. The closed-door meeting, held Thursday at the Presidential Villa, also included suspended Speaker Martin Amaewhule and lawmakers.

According to presidency sources, Fubara agreed not to seek re-election in 2027 and will allow Wike to nominate all 23 local government chairpersons. “He agreed to conclude his tenure in peace and leave the stage after that,” a source revealed.

Wike, confirming the truce, said, “We are members of the same political family… everything is over.” Fubara called it a “divine intervention” and pledged full commitment to peace in Rivers State.

While supporters remain divided, the deal marks Tinubu’s latest intervention following months of conflict. The President had previously declared a state of emergency and suspended the governor’s powers due to the governance crisis and insecurity in the state.
