Terrorists ambush and kill battalion commander, several soldiers in Borno

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko, Commanding Officer of the 202 Tank Battalion, and several soldiers following a fierce encounter with Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

The Nigerian Army has announced the death of Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko, Commanding Officer of the 202 Tank Battalion, alongside several soldiers during a battle with Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Apollonia Anele, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. She said troops under Operation HADIN KAI, 21 Special Armoured Brigade, engaged the terrorists on October 17 around the Kashimri area of Bama Local Government.

“The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gunfight and neutralised several of them,” the statement said. “These brave heroes fought for the peace of our great nation, and their legacies shall endure forever.”

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to eliminating terrorism and restoring lasting peace across Nigeria.
