Tesla will raise production at its German plant after strong sales, with factory head André Thierig citing positive demand trends across more than 30 markets despite earlier declines in German sales.
Tesla plans to raise production at its German plant for the remainder of the year following improved sales, the head of the Gruenheide facility told Germany’s DPA news agency.
“We currently have very good sales figures and have therefore revised our production plans for the third and fourth quarters upwards,” said André Thierig, manager of the factory located outside Berlin.
The move comes despite Germany’s challenging market, where Tesla faces competition from Chinese electric vehicle makers. Analysts suggest Elon Musk’s political activities may have also weighed on demand.
In July, Tesla’s sales in Germany fell sharply, halving year-on-year to 1,110 vehicles. Between January and July, sales dropped 57.8%, according to the KBA road transport authority.
Still, Thierig reported encouraging signs across Tesla’s international markets. “We supply well over 30 markets and definitely see a positive trend there,” he told DPA.
