Texas woman Sarah Hartsfield has been convicted of murdering her fifth husband with insulin after years of suspicion surrounding the deaths and abuse of previous partners.

A Texas woman, Sarah Hartsfield, 49, has been convicted of murdering her fifth husband, Joseph Hartsfield, 46, by administering a lethal dose of insulin in January 2023.

During the seven-day trial, prosecutors described Hartsfield as a serial manipulator who believed she could “get away with it because it’s what she’s always done.” Chambers County Assistant District Attorney Mallory Vargas said, “What a wild coincidence that no person can leave her without consequences.”

Hartsfield’s history includes the 2018 shooting death of her fiancé, David Bragg, which she claimed was self-defense, and an earlier investigation into an alleged plot involving one ex-husband and another’s new wife.

Relatives of Joseph testified that he planned to leave her but feared for his life. Medical experts confirmed he died from insulin toxicity.

Hartsfield’s ex-husbands described her as violent and controlling. Her first husband said, “I’m glad she has finally been caught for who she is.”
