The troubling side of Miss World: Crime, drugs, and shame

“I went there to make a difference but we had to sit like performing monkeys,” Magee told The Sun. She added, “I felt like a prostitute… farmed out for entertainment.”

Milla Magee, 24, who was crowned Miss England in May 2024, has resigned from the Miss World pageant, citing disturbing experiences.

The Newquay-based lifeguard initially blamed “personal reasons” for quitting but has since described the contest as “outdated” and demeaning.

“I went there to make a difference but we had to sit like performing monkeys,” Magee told The Sun. She added, “I felt like a prostitute… farmed out for entertainment.”

According to Magee, contestants were required to remain dressed in full gowns all day and were paraded before wealthy guests.

Magee, the first Miss England to step down from Miss World, said the final straw came when she was told to entertain male donors and thank them. Her efforts to speak about humanitarian work were reportedly ignored.

The Miss World pageant has long faced criticism, with controversies including the 2014 murder of Miss Honduras, a £250,000 drug smuggling scandal involving Miss Bermuda 1982, and a Miss China contestant being removed over allegations of misconduct and false academic claims.

Magee formally withdrew on May 16.
