There’s no democracy in Nigeria – Peter Obi blasts Tinubu’s govt

“As far as I’m concerned and I maintain it, there is no democracy in Nigeria. We will continue to agitate for true democracy.”

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has declared Nigeria undemocratic, criticizing President Tinubu’s handling of Edo and Rivers political crises.

In an Arise TV interview, Obi condemned recent elections and appointments: “Bringing somebody not democratically elected violates democratic rules.” He cited Rivers’ caretaker administration and Edo polls as proof of democratic backsliding, vowing continued agitation for reform.

Defending his Anambra governorship record, Obi noted delaying council polls for seven years to ensure credibility: “I brought civility…started doing things in an organized manner.” Meanwhile, Anambra PDP urged his return during Thursday’s SEC meeting to revitalize the opposition party.
