The Senate has confirmed the defection of Senators Adamu Aliero, representing Kebbi Central; Yahaya Abdullahi of Kebbi North; and Garba Maidoki of Kebbi South from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during Tuesday’s plenary session after their recent resignation from the opposition party.

With this shift, the APC now holds 68 seats in the 10th National Assembly, further solidifying its majority in the Senate. The defection ceremony was attended by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, and Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Yusuf Sununu.

Following the move, the Senate’s new composition is APC-68, PDP-30, Labour Party-5, NNPP-1, SDP-2, and APGA-1. The defections came after the senators met with President Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives rejected seven constitutional amendment bills during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
