27 year old Charles Smith filmed himself in December spraying fruit as a “joke.”
Once he realized that his “prank” could have serious consequences, Smith tried backtracking by throwing away the produce.
“The time between when the defendant sprayed the items to when he placed them into the cart left plenty of time for customers to take the contaminated items and purchase them,” court documents said.
Smith was sentenced to one year in prison with 136 days served credit.
He also received three years of probation for criminal damage and solicitation to commit burglary. (AZ Central)
