The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced a new policy approved by President Bola Tinubu that will provide lifetime salary benefits to senior officers retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General and above.
The minister made the announcement on Thursday at the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, detailing the ministry’s achievements and its commitment to institutional performance. A statement signed by the Federal Fire Service’s DCF PO Abraham confirmed the landmark welfare initiative.
“In recognition of the welfare of senior officers, the minister announced that any officer retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller/ Comptroller /Commandant-General will now receive lifetime salary benefits, a policy graciously approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.
Tunji-Ojo also expressed “profound appreciation to President Tinubu for his unwavering support,” affirming that agencies under his ministry are benefiting from the Renewed Hope Agenda. He further revealed that a backlog of promotions had been cleared, with over 50,000 officers promoted in the last two years, and that a new world-class Fire Academy is under construction.
