President Bola Tinubu has congratulated British-Nigerians Opeyemi Bright and Jason Jackson on their inauguration as mayors in Barking and Dagenham, and Islington respectively.
In a statement by spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised both for “promoting the values of honesty, integrity, hard work, and commitment to the well-being of others.”
“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Mayors Opeyemi Bright and Jason Jackson,” Tinubu said. “I have every confidence in your abilities and look forward to the positive impact you will make.”
Bright, 29, is the youngest mayor in her borough’s history. Jackson is the first Nigerian-born Mayor of Islington, marking major milestones in local UK politics.
