Tinubu declared state police “inevitable” as he ordered a review of security operations in Katsina and pledged advanced military deployments.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the creation of state police is inevitable as Nigeria intensifies efforts to tackle worsening insecurity.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa while receiving a delegation of Katsina elders led by Governor Dikko Radda, Tinubu said security agencies have been directed to review their operations in the state following increased banditry.
He disclosed that advanced military hardware, including drones and surveillance equipment, would be deployed to improve response to attacks.
“I am reviewing all the aspects of security; I have to create state police. We are looking at that holistically,” the president said, adding, “We will defeat insecurity. We must protect our children, our people, our livelihood, our places of worship, and our recreational spaces.”
Tinubu also paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as having left “a legacy of success” rather than a “defeated country.”
Governor Radda thanked Tinubu for his support, stressing Katsina’s urgent need for greater security and youth empowerment.
Elders present urged the federal government to upgrade infrastructure, including the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport.
