Tinubu ordered swift measures to cut food prices by easing logistics and empowering farmers under a food sovereignty plan.

President Bola Tinubu has directed a Federal Executive Council committee to fast-track measures aimed at reducing food prices nationwide. Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja.

Abdullahi explained that the plan prioritizes safe passage for farm produce across transport routes to reduce logistics costs. “The President has given a matching order with a federal executive council committee already handling it on how we are going to promote safe passage of agricultural foods and commodities across our various routes in the country,” he said at a capacity-building workshop for Senate correspondents.

He added that the initiative is tied to Tinubu’s vision of food sovereignty, focusing on affordability, accessibility, and nutrition. The government is also set to launch a Farmer Soil Health Scheme and reform cooperatives to boost rural farmers’ capacity. Despite interventions, food insecurity persists, worsened by high transport costs, insecurity, and inflation.
