President Bola Tinubu, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and EFCC Chair Ola Olukoyede met with former Rivers administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas in Abuja, amid mounting scrutiny over N254bn state allocations during his six-month tenure.

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday hosted the immediate past Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a meeting also attended by Finance Minister Wale Edun and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede.

Ibas, who oversaw Rivers during six months of emergency rule that ended on September 17, arrived at Aso Rock around 6 p.m. and was ushered in by Edun and Olukoyede.

Details of the closed-door meeting were not disclosed, but a source close to the Presidency linked the visit to his stewardship in the oil-rich state.

The Rivers State House of Assembly had earlier announced plans to probe government expenditure during the emergency period.

At its first plenary after the return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and lawmakers to office, the House resolved to “explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the consolidated revenue fund.”

Findings show that Rivers received at least N254.37bn from the Federation Account Allocation Committee between March and August 2025, averaging N42.40bn monthly.

Ibas has rejected calls for a probe, but Wednesday’s meeting has heightened speculation about accountability for state finances.
