President Bola Tinubu says his nomination of Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN) as INEC chairman was driven by the scholar’s integrity and non-partisan record.
President Bola Tinubu has explained his choice of Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN) as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, citing his apolitical nature, integrity, and record of service.
“President Tinubu told the council that Amupitan is the first person from Kogi, North-Central state, nominated to occupy the position and is apolitical,” a statement by his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, said.
Tinubu spoke at the National Council of State meeting in Abuja, where Amupitan’s nomination received unanimous approval. Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, described the professor as “a man of proven integrity.”
Amupitan, 58, is a Professor of Law and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos. He became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2014 and has authored several legal texts on corporate governance and evidence law.
Tinubu is expected to forward his nomination to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
