The coalition’s president, Barrister Maxwell Egboh, urged President Tinubu to take immediate action against Ibas for threatening stability in Rivers State.
A coalition of 100 civil society organizations, under the banner of the Civic Room for Rule of Law, has endorsed the call by human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) for the removal of Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (rtd.) as the sole administrator of Rivers State. In a statement, the coalition accused Ibas of violating presidential directives and disregarding constitutional processes, threatening the state’s stability.
The group specifically cited the Official Gazette dated March 18, 2025, which mandates that Ibas operate within regulations set by President Bola Tinubu. They alleged he made unlawful appointments and dismissed officials appointed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“This blatant disregard for the President’s orders is a clear indication of the Sole Administrator’s contempt for the rule of law,” said Barrister Maxwell Egboh, the coalition’s president.
The group also commended the House of Representatives for summoning Ibas to appear for investigation.
