Over 200 Nigerians were killed in terror-related incidents during the first three weeks of June 2025 under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, echoing crises he once blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan for.
In a series of deadly attacks across Benue, Borno, Zamfara, Plateau and other northern states, gunmen, bombers, and mistaken military strikes claimed dozens of civilian lives. A June 14 massacre in Benue alone left over 100 dead.
These events mirror the period Tinubu previously called a “failure of intelligence and leadership.” In 2014, he wrote: “A govt unable to protect its citizens deserves to be queried… Nigerians are tired of excuses.”
Security forces have launched investigations but reported no major arrests. Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters dismissed Amnesty International’s report citing over 10,000 deaths in two years.
Despite Tinubu’s past demands for presidential accountability, critics say similar lapses now define his own tenure.
