President Bola Tinubu has postponed his trips to South Africa and Angola to receive security briefings on the Kebbi schoolgirls’ abduction and the attack on worshippers in Kwara State.
President Bola Tinubu has delayed his scheduled trip to South Africa for the G20 Leaders’ Summit and a subsequent visit to Angola following fresh security crises in Kebbi and Kwara States.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu suspended his departure as he awaits detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi over the abduction of at least 25 schoolgirls and the killing of the school’s vice-principal.
The President also ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku in Kwara State after bandits attacked worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, directing security agencies to “do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls, abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home, safe.”
Tinubu expressed sadness over the incidents, which occurred despite intelligence warnings, and extended condolences to the military over the loss of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other soldiers killed in Borno State.
