The meetings align with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar III, at the State House in Abuja, according to Punch reporting.
The meeting followed Tinubu’s earlier engagement with the Archbishop of Abuja, Bishop Ignatius Kaigama, as part of ongoing consultations with religious and traditional leaders to strengthen social trust and promote dialogue nationwide.
The President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, said on X that the discussions were part of broader efforts to deepen peace and interfaith cooperation across Nigeria. Presidency sources also told The Nation that the meetings were aimed at consolidating unity and addressing emerging social challenges through inclusive engagement.
Officials said the talks reflect the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places inclusivity and interfaith dialogue at the center of his administration’s drive for stability and cohesion.
The engagements come as global attention focuses on religious freedom, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s redesignation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.” Nigeria has since rejected Washington’s claims of Christian persecution as “false narratives,” reaffirming that the constitution guarantees religious harmony.
