The Federal Government has introduced a new economic directive — The Nigeria First Policy — aimed at promoting local content in public procurement.
Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, announced the policy after Tuesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting, stating it will soon be formalised via executive order.
“This policy means Nigeria comes first in all procurement processes,” he said, adding that foreign goods already produced locally won’t be considered without justification.
The Bureau of Public Procurement will enforce revised guidelines, maintain a register of local suppliers, and sanction non-compliance.
The policy aligns with President Tinubu’s industrialisation vision and aims to build domestic capacity.
