Tinubu’s 2027 endorsement sparks doubt about Shettima’s future

Some observers wonder whether the silence on Shettima during the APC national summit where Tinubu was endorsed as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election was not deliberate.

President Bola Tinubu has been formally endorsed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election, but Vice President Kashim Shettima’s exclusion from the declaration has ignited political uncertainty.

The unanimous backing occurred at the APC National Summit in Abuja, attended by Tinubu, Shettima, 22 governors, National Assembly leaders, and party stakeholders. Despite Shettima’s physical presence, summit proceedings—including motions by Governor Hope Uzodimma and Senate President Godswill Akpabio—repeatedly omitted his name, focusing solely on Tinubu’s re-election bid .

APC officials scrambled to downplay the snub, with National Vice Chairman (South-East) Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu dismissing rumours as “political noise” and affirming a “solid working relationship” between both leaders. 

However, the silence has deepened anxieties in Shettima’s North-East stronghold, where stakeholders plan emergency talks in Gombe on June 16. Simultaneously, North-Central groups intensified lobbying

for the vice presidential slot, declaring, “We have what it takes to lead” 4.
