Baba-Ahmed described the silence as “worrying” and urged Tinubu to speak directly and emphatically if he truly stands by his deputy.
A former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has criticized the President’s silence over persistent rumours that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be dropped ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Baba-Ahmed said Tinubu’s failure to publicly affirm Shettima’s position has allowed damaging speculation to grow.
“I think, somewhere along the line, to be honest, the President should have done something a long time ago,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He added that a clear and personal statement from Tinubu could have ended the talks.
“If these stories have no iota of truth, it would have taken just one thing: the President directly and personally saying, ‘Stop this nonsense. I have confidence in my Vice President,’” he said.
