“Barack was saying, ‘Well, you’re next up.’ And I was like, ‘I’m not really ready to be next up,’” she said. “I told him, ‘You’re next up and Craig is next up. I delegate that power to you.’”

Michelle Obama is speaking candidly about grief, aging, and the next phase of her life following the death of her mother, Marian Robinson, at age 86.

On Wednesday’s episode of the Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast, co-hosted with her brother Craig Robinson, the former First Lady recalled a moment with her husband, Barack Obama.

“Barack was saying, ‘Well, you’re next up.’ And I was like, ‘I’m not really ready to be next up,’” she said. “I told him, ‘You’re next up and Craig is next up. I delegate that power to you.’”

Michelle also reflected on the shift in family dynamics: “After your parents die, you finally become an adult… you become the glue.”

She recently told Jay Shetty she’s returned to therapy while transitioning into life as a 60-year-old empty nester.

Despite ongoing divorce rumors, the Obamas were recently seen together at dinner in Georgetown, reaffirming their

bond amid speculation.
