Defections: PDP calls emergency meeting to halt Hurricane Tinubu
“I am made in APC, by APC, and for APC,” Governor Idris said, dismissing rumors of defection.
…“no one single candidate can beat Tinubu alone… You need the elite to secure your victory even if the people vote for you.”
The crisis intensified after Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire Delta PDP structure defected to the APC, an exodus dubbed ‘Hurricane Tinubu.’
He faulted Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidy on his first day in office, likening it to a doctor treating a patient without proper diagnosis.
President Bola Tinubu’s political maneuvers are being credited with a surge of defections by top opposition figures into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a major shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tinubu’s strategy—whether through persuasion, political deals, or strategic alliances—have weakened the opposition.
“No one who wishes to lead a nation called Nigeria must be the de-marketer on steroids of the same country he or she wishes to lead. Stop it immediately,” he said.
“As legislators who are closest to the people, we shall begin the mother of all mobilizations…to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement added.
It would be unfair to the Abia electorate if politics of 2027, instead of governance is allowed to dominate discussions less than two years into the administration.
