At least 20 athletes from the Kano State contingent have died in a devastating motor accident at Dakatsalle Bridge in Kura Local Government Area, Kano State.
The victims were reportedly returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, when the tragedy occurred on Saturday.
According to the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, the bus, which was carrying around 30 athletes, fell from the bridge, leading to multiple fatalities and injuries. “As I am talking to you now, we have counted 19 dead bodies,” he stated.
Former SWAN Vice President, Ado Salisu, confirmed that injured victims were being transported to the Kura General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), through its spokesperson Abdullahi Labaran, confirmed the crash but said details on casualties were still being compiled at the time of reporting.
