A student heading to write his WAEC exam was tragically killed by a stray bullet reportedly fired by the police during a chase along Old Ife Road, Ibadan.
According to eyewitness reports shared on X (formerly Twitter), the student was in his father’s car when the police, allegedly pursuing suspected internet fraudsters (“yahoo boys”), opened fire. One of the bullets struck the student.
“Police just shot someone at Old Ife Road just now. They said they were chasing yahoo boys and a stray bullet hit a child in his dad’s car on the way to school to write WAEC. I hope the kid survives… Why would you shoot in the first place?” a witness wrote.
In a painful update, the same user later confirmed:
“The boy died.”
The incident has since sparked widespread outrage online.
“People that are meant to protect our lives are now the ones taking it,” one user lamented.
Calls for a full investigation and justice continue to flood social media.
