Trailer crash on Niger State road leaves 22 dead, 20 injured

At least 22 people were killed and 20 others injured in a lone road accident involving a trailer along the Lapai–Lambata route in Niger State on Monday.

At least 22 people were killed and 20 others injured in a lone road accident involving a trailer along the Lapai–Lambata route in Niger State on Monday. The trailer, which was transporting both passengers and cattle, was travelling from Kano to Lagos when it crashed in the early hours of the morning.

According to eyewitnesses, most of the victims were traders from Zamfara State heading south for business. The crash left many dead on the spot, while the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Aishat Saadu, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger State, told SaharaReporters, “The crash occurred around 0300hrs along the Lapai – Lambata route. It was a lone crash involving a truck.”

She added, “Forty-two (42) people were involved. Twenty-two (22) dead, twenty (20) injured as at the time of rescue. The injured were taken to FMC Lambata, while the dead were taken to the General Hospital, Suleja.”
