Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed his departure from Liverpool after 20 years, set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer
Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced he will leave the club at the end of the 2024–25 season, concluding a 20-year tenure that began in the academy. The 26-year-old right-back is poised to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, signing a five-year contract with the Spanish giants.
In an emotional statement shared on social media, Alexander-Arnold said:
“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”
He emphasized that his decision was driven by a desire for new challenges and personal growth, rather than financial considerations. Despite Liverpool’s significant contract offers, the club couldn’t provide the new experience he seeks.
Alexander-Arnold has made 352 appearances for Liverpool, contributing to major successes including two Premier League titles and a Champions League victory.
