A truck driver who witnessed the aftermath of Diogo Jota’s fatal car crash has disputed police reports that the Liverpool star was speeding. José Azevedo, who filmed the scene, told the Daily Mail the car was moving at a “normal, calm pace” and he could clearly identify its make and color. While a preliminary police report cited speeding as a likely factor in the tire blowout and fire (CNN), Azevedo insisted he saw no evidence of excessive speed and attempted to help at the scene (Yahoo). Another truck driver claimed Jota’s car overtook him at a “moderate” speed minutes before the crash (SPORTbible).
