Several people were feared dead on Friday night when a trailer lost control and ploughed into pedestrians at Chisco Park Junction
Several people were feared dead on Friday night when a trailer lost control and ploughed into pedestrians at Chisco Park Junction, Amichi, in Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State. The accident reportedly occurred around 9:30pm after the truck suffered brake failure, hitting bystanders including traders, motorcyclists, and a little girl.
Eyewitnesses told The PUNCH that the victims were engaged in their usual nighttime business activities and did not notice the approaching trailer. One witness, Uche, said, “The crash, which occurred at about 9:30pm yesterday (Friday) came as a shock given the short period within which everything happened.”
CCTV footage from Amichi showed victims lying on the ground while bystanders attempted to help. Uche added, “Some road users who saw the trailer on time… were able to escape the tragedy.”
Margaret Onabe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating, “Information about the crash and the casualty rate is still being gathered, we will issue a statement soon.”
