“Iran has been slow-walking their decision… we will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time!”
U.S President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Iran of “slow-walking their decision” on nuclear talks, shortly after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei publicly criticized the U.S. proposal.
Khamenei’s remarks signaled Tehran’s likely rejection of the deal, which allows limited uranium enrichment with future oversight by an international consortium. “A nuclear industry without enrichment capabilities is useless,” Khamenei said. “The U.S. proposal is 100% against the spirit of ‘We can.’” He added, “Why are you interfering and trying to say whether Iran should have uranium enrichment or not? That’s none of your business.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also wrote on X: “To reiterate: No enrichment, no deal. No nuclear weapons, we have a deal.”
Trump, writing on Truth Social, revealed he discussed the matter with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Iran has been slow-walking their decision… we will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time!” he said. Trump added that Putin supports the U.S. stance and offered to help.
The deadline for reaching an agreement, set by Trump, expires next week. Talks may resume this weekend, sources say.
