The president said late Monday he planned to attend the funeral with his wife, first lady Melania Trump.

President Donald Trump will travel to Rome on Friday to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, who died Monday at age 88 following a cerebral stroke and heart failure.

The White House confirmed Trump’s two-day trip on Tuesday, noting that he will be accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump.

“We look forward to being there!” the president wrote on Truth Social.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is expected to return to the U.S. Saturday evening after the service.

The visit forms part of a broader schedule of foreign engagements. On Thursday, Trump will host Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at the White House for talks on trade and regional security.

Leavitt also announced upcoming visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates from May 13–16.

Trump previously cultivated strong ties with Gulf nations during his first term, particularly in the areas of economic investment and cooperation.
