U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that his administration was aware in advance of Israel’s recent military strikes on Iran. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Friday, Trump stated, “Heads-up? It wasn’t a heads-up. It was, we know what’s going on.” The remarks suggest that Washington had prior knowledge of the operation, though the extent of coordination remains unclear.
According to the Journal, Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday and intended to speak with him again the following day. He described the operation as “a very successful attack, to put it mildly.”
The Israeli strikes on Iran have escalated tensions in the region, prompting widespread international concern. The nature and scale of the attack, as well as the U.S.’s foreknowledge, are likely to remain focal points in the unfolding diplomatic fallout.
