President Donald Trump said he hopes Tyler Robinson, accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, receives the death penalty after being turned in by his father.
U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the death penalty for the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah. “He’s going to be found guilty I imagine. And I hope he gets the death penalty,” Trump said during a live Fox TV appearance.
Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who was arrested late Friday after a two-day manhunt. According to law enforcement, Robinson’s father, Matt, obtained a confession from his son and alerted a clergyman friend, who then notified the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. U.S. Marshals apprehended Robinson at about 10 p.m. local time.
“Charlie Kirk was the finest person. He didn’t deserve this. He worked so hard, and so well. Everybody liked him,” Trump added.
Kirk, 31, a father of two, was shot dead Wednesday when a gunman fired a single hunting-rifle shot across the Utah Valley University campus, sparking national outrage and tributes from political leaders.
