President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after experiencing mild swelling in his lower legs, according to the White House.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump, 79, underwent a “comprehensive examination” that included vascular studies. His physician, Capt. Sean Barbabella, stated in a letter that Doppler ultrasounds confirmed the condition, which is described as benign and common among individuals over 70.

“There was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease,” Barbabella added, noting that Trump’s lab results were within normal limits and an echocardiogram showed no signs of heart failure or systemic illness.

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when vein valves malfunction, causing blood to pool in the legs. Risk factors include age, obesity, and inactivity. “It’s basically not alarming information,” said Dr. Jeremy Faust of Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Bernard Ashby and Dr. Chris Pernell highlighted the importance of ruling out related conditions like heart pressure or sleep apnea.

Leavitt also addressed bruises on Trump’s hand, attributing them to frequent handshaking and aspirin use.

Barbabella concluded: “President Trump remains in excellent health.” Trump is set to become the oldest U.S. president during his second term.
