Trump has proposed appointing Tony Blair to a new “board of peace” to help govern Gaza post-Hamas, a plan Blair praised despite uncertainty over acceptance by Hamas and Israel.

President Donald Trump has unveiled a proposal to appoint former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to help oversee Gaza under a post-war peace framework. Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump described Blair, 72, as a “good man” while presenting a 20-point plan “to end the Gaza conflict.”

Blair would serve on a new international transitional body, dubbed the “board of peace,” which Trump said he would personally chair. The panel would manage day-to-day operations in Gaza once Hamas is removed from power. “Working with the World Bank and others, it will be responsible for recruiting and training a new government that will be made up of Palestinians along with highly qualified experts from all along the world,” Trump said.

While only Blair and Trump were named as members, the former prime minister welcomed the plan. He called it “bold and intelligent” and “the best chance of ending two years of war, misery and suffering.”

Hamas has not agreed to the proposal, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue fighting if it is rejected.
