The Trump administration is considering expanding travel restrictions to 36 additional countries, according to an internal memo obtained by The Washington Post. The memo, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, instructs U.S. diplomats to inform these countries that they must meet new requirements within 60 days or face possible visa bans and travel limitations.

The State Department cited issues such as lack of reliable identity documents and high visa overstay rates. However, the memo notes that countries accepting deported third-country nationals from the U.S. may ease restrictions.

The African countries listed include: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Also included are Caribbean nations: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia; Asian nations: Bhutan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, and Syria; and Pacific countries: Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Nations must submit initial plans by Wednesday at 8 a.m. The White House has not commented. The move follows Trump’s broader immigration crackdown.
