FIFA has introduced a new “Peace Prize – Football Unites the World” award ahead of the 2026 World Cup, with President Trump widely expected to be the inaugural recipient.
There may be a peace prize for President Donald Trump this year after all. According to a report from DESERET NEWS, FIFA, the international soccer federation, has created the “FIFA Peace Prize — Football Unites the World” to honor “exceptional actions for peace and unity” ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
While the awardee will be announced at the Dec. 5 final World Cup draw in Washington, D.C., multiple sources have told Inside World Football that Trump is expected to receive it. FIFA President Gianni Infantino previously said Trump “definitely deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.”
In a social media statement, Infantino said, “it’s fundamental to recognize the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace.” He added that Trump has “such an incredible energy… He does things. He does what he says. He says what he thinks.”
Critics have raised concerns about Infantino’s public support for Trump. Miguel Maduro, former head of the FIFA Governance Committee, called it “a clear violation of the duty of political neutrality imposed on any FIFA official.”
FIFA has yet to disclose specifics on the selection process, but the award will go to “individuals who… have helped to unite people all over the world,” according to the Associated Press report.
