President Donald Trump plans to impose a 100% tariff on movies made outside the US.
Former President Donald Trump announced plans Sunday to impose a 100% tariff on all movies produced outside the United States, calling the current state of the film industry a “national security threat.”
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused foreign governments of luring U.S. filmmakers and studios abroad with financial incentives. He warned that these actions are accelerating the decline of American filmmaking.
“Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands,” Trump wrote.
He concluded the post with a call to action: “WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!”
