Trump offers $1,000 stipend to migrants who self-deport

President Trump’s administration is offering a $1,000 stipend and free flights to undocumented migrants who voluntarily leave the U.S., aiming to reduce deportation costs and avoid arrests.

President Donald Trump has unveiled a controversial initiative offering \$1,000 and free travel to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily leave the United States.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the plan on Monday, stating it forms part of the administration’s broader immigration crackdown.

“If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest,” Noem said.

Through the CBP Home app, migrants can apply for the stipend and confirm their travel arrangements. Once approved, they will be deprioritized for detention or removal as long as they show progress toward departure.

The administration claims the policy will save taxpayer money by reducing the costs associated with arrests, detentions, and government-chartered deportation flights.

The stipend, payable after verified departure, is intended to incentivize migrants to leave “dignifiedly” rather than face forced removal.

Since returning to power, Trump has intensified measures against unauthorised immigrants, stripping them of protections and access to financial services.
