Trump pushes back on monarchy claims from protesters

“I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get stuff approved. … We’re not a king at all,” Trump said Thursday during a bill signing at the White House.

President Trump dismissed upcoming “No Kings” protests planned nationwide this weekend, rejecting accusations that he governs like a monarch.
“I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get stuff approved. … We’re not a king at all,” Trump said Thursday during a bill signing at the White House.

The protests, organized under the “No Kings” banner by the group 50501, are scheduled for Saturday in hundreds of cities. The date coincides with both the president’s 79th birthday and a large military parade in Washington, celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary.

Organizers say the demonstrations are a response to what they see as Trump’s threat to democratic institutions. “We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind,” the movement’s website states.
“The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us,” the site adds. “On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t — to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”
